Burning Star rocketed into Pasadena the night before Cinco de Mayo. The notorious Taxi club had promised a performance from a top secret side project led by members of the Black Eyed Peas camp. The newborn crew named Burning Star blazed some hot jams for the taquilla slamming, pre Cinco de Mayo spectators.

In the Taxi underground chamber, a caliente mix was being provided by a hip hop DJ, loading his wheels of steel with Gangstarr, Jurassic 5, and Dilated Peoples. Upstairs at the main bar, bonitas senioritas were shaking their booties to a house DJ hard at work earning his milk money on the ones and twos.

After a hot salsa set from the latin crew Quetzal, Burning Star took to the outdoor stage. Definitely influenced by the BEP's, Burning Star has a groovy-slick, funked-out, organic-jazzy feel. The live set flowed smooth like butter, and the crowd was feeling the heat. Different BEP's MC's graced the stage to lyrically enhance Burning Star's skilled live band.

After the set I spoke to Burning Star's guitarist, a jazzy string man with mad skills. He told me to be on look out for the full on lp in the works. Look out for the Burning Star crew to blow up the spot in your town on their summer tour.
