The Beastie Boy's dj Mixmaster Mike blew the roof off Hollywood's El Rey theatre last week. Mike combined hard beats with ill tracks for a rare, furious performance on the ones and twos. During his extended, solo act, Mixmaster did his thing weaving hip hop with funk, jazz, bizarre sound effects, and wicked scratching.

The Mixmaster cut and sliced deep into the night to an amped crowd. Mike unleashed sick tidbits from his latest album entitled, Eye of the Cyclops. Also included in Mike's ill set were remixed versions of new school Beastie Boys tracks and cuts from his previous solo record, Anti-Theft Device.

Mixmaster Mike flexed his skills as a world class turntablist throughout his Hollywood gig. Mixmaster Mike has a long running history in hip hop as a founding member of the legendary Bay area underground collective, The Invisibl Scratch Piklz. Mike has also collaborated with dj Shortcut to create Q-Bert. While affiliated with the Piklz, Mike won three consecutive world dj titles. He was barred from future contests because no one could come close to matching Mike's super human scratching skills.

Watching Mixmaster Mike is almost too much to comprehend, the man hits switches and the crossfader at light speed. Mike uses his tables like instruments, creating a dope style of hip hop on the cutting edge. The Beastie Boys are on point when they say, "nobody can do it like Mixmaster can."
