Dilated Peoples worked Hollywood's
angles sharp and precise at the Whiskey A Go Go. Most haven't
heard of the underground hip-hop superstars Dilated Peoples.
In fact Dilated has never released a full length album to
the masses. However this ill group has received mass appeal
from superstar MC's, DJ's, and underground fans.
The set opened with DJ J-Rocc of the
world famous Beat Junkies spinning a silky smooth mix of ill
beats and rhythms. J-Rocc flexed his skills as a Beat Junky
fusing the Roots, KRS-One, Gangstarr, Jurassic 5, Common Sense,
and Defari into a dope ass mix.
As J-Rocc wrapped up his set, fellow
member of the Beat Junkies, DJ Babu stepped up to the tables.
While not collaborating with the Beat Junkies, Babu handles
Dilated's turntabilistic tasks. The D.P.'s hit the stage hard
rocking their ill hits Triple Optics, The Platform, and some
fresh new cuts. Babu held the stage down for a bit, performing
a sick DJ solo. Babu's unique DJ syling is a result of quick,
intelligent scratching with the use of his cross fader and
just one table.
Alkaholic MC Tash made a surprise appearance
and performed the Rawkus classic Soundbombing with the Peoples.
Guest appearances continued through the evening as MC's Planet
Asia and Defari joined Dilated to drop knowledge upon the
Hollywood crowd. Dilated Peoples rocked an epic set that was
nothing less then off the hinges.
You can check out the underground stylings
of the ill crew Dilated Peoples on Beat Junkies mix-tape albums,
Rawkus Records Soundbombing compilations, or at www.dilatedpeoples.com.
Be on the lookout for D.P.'s full length album entitled "The
Platform" to drop this spring.
