The Unseen Party

Peanut Butter Wolf's record label, Stones Throw, tossed one hell of a bash at the El Rey in Los Angeles this week. The label's ill line up of underground west-coast hip hop artists includes Breakestra and Loot Pack, as well as collaborations with Tha Alkaholiks and Dilated Peoples. Stones Throw was celebrating the release of the illest lp to blow up the fuck up this summer�Quasimoto: The Unseen.

The night's line up was epic, I only began to register the huge dose of raw talent as I was cruising home later on. First off was KutMasta Kurt, best known for his production work on tracks he laid down for Kool Keith, Q-Bert, Beastie Boys, and Dilated Peoples to name just a few. Needless to say, the Kutmasta sliced through a dope mix of his signature deep and dark acid-jazzy melodic hip hop. Planet Asia was next up. Asia's set was tight, he's a dope lyricist, the crowd was feeling his silky smooth stylings.

Just as folks at the El Rey began wondering if shit could possibly get any hotter, The Breakestra took to the stage. This native LA band are notorious for rocking the spot on a regular basis, this night was no exception. The Breakestra crew tore through a live set of their old-school influenced live hip hop and funk beats and rhythms.

I'm not about to speak here about Quasimoto, The Unseen is an album like none ever to emerge from the hip hop underground. All I can say is Quasimoto (aka Mad Lib) is on some other shit, some serious beyond, years ahead of it's time ish. What I can divulge is yes, the mysterious bad character Quasimoto emerged to calculate microphone mathematics and transport the audience to an astroblack realm. For a glimpse of the future sounds of hip hop, peep Quasimoto, you don't want to get caught sleeping on this shit.
